Free guide: How to use AI in compliance

Customer story · Wealth management

Azimut brought median KYC onboarding under 15 seconds and cut manual review by 92%.

Azimut

In short: Azimut Group is an independent asset and wealth manager based in Italy, with operations across EMEA, LATAM, APAC and MENA. Its digital channels onboarded investors through a hybrid KYC flow: an in-house OCR layer feeding a manual compliance queue. Azimut moved identity verification, document checks, liveness, AML screening and ongoing monitoring onto Zyphe in one integration, which its own engineers built in under a week. Median onboarding time fell below 15 seconds, the share of verifications sent to manual review fell by about 92% (from roughly 1 in 100 to fewer than 1 in 1,000), and OCR accuracy on government IDs from around the world is 99.7%.

What was Azimut doing before?

Azimut's digital channels onboarded investors and retail clients through a hybrid flow: an in-house OCR layer that fed a manual compliance queue. As digital volume grew, three pressures arrived at once.

Compliance load: sanctions, PEP and ongoing monitoring checks ran across several disconnected vendors, each producing false positives that analysts cleared by hand. Conversion: onboarding took several minutes, and a share of applicants dropped off at the document upload step. Data liability: holding customer personal data across several jurisdictions raised Azimut's regulatory and breach exposure under the GDPR and local data residency rules.

What did they deploy?

  • One KYC flow covering document and non-document verification, liveness, age estimation and device intelligence, with the logic adapted per jurisdiction.
  • Identity data encrypted and kept out of Azimut's own systems and out of any central Zyphe database, while Azimut keeps audit-grade access for its regulators.
  • Webhooks pushing every decision into the CRM and compliance tools Azimut already ran.

What changed?

  • Median time to onboard below 15 seconds across the supported markets, with a measurable lift at the document upload step.
  • Manual review down about 92%: from roughly 1 in 100 verifications to fewer than 1 in 1,000, so analysts work the genuine edge cases.
  • 99.7% OCR accuracy on government IDs from around the world.
  • Low-risk sanctions and PEP matches cleared automatically, with ongoing monitoring running in the background.
  • A class of personal data storage removed from Azimut's own perimeter, which simplifies its GDPR footprint and its audit preparation.

What this story does not claim: This story does not publish the measurement period, an exact verification volume, or the conversion lift at the document upload step in numbers. The reduction in sanctions and PEP false positives is described, not quantified.
